Mack Trucks announced Northwest Equipment Sales, based in Boise, Idaho, is the first Mack dealer in the Northwest to be certified as an electric vehicle dealer.

With the certification, the Boise location is ready to service the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle — Mack’s first fully electric vehicle. The LR Electric is equipped with four nickel manganese cobalt oxide lithium-ion batteries, charged by a 150-kilowatt, SAE J1772-compliant charging system.

“Mack chose to make its first electric vehicle a refuse model because the closed-loop application allows the vehicle to return to home base each day for recharging,” Scott Barraclough, senior product manager of e-mobility, said in a release.

To be EV-certified, dealerships must meet numerous safety, charging, infrastructure and training requirements. Updating the facility also is required, according to Greensboro, N.C.-based Mack, a unit of Volvo Group.

The first Mack dealer to have this designation was TEC Equipment’s Fontana, Calif.-based dealership. — Transport Topics
