LTL Group Seeks Hearings Before New Hazmat Rules Are Proposed

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>The Distribution and LTL Carriers Association has asked the Research and Special Programs Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to hold hearings before proposing hazardous materials transportation regulations.

Kevin Williams, the group's chief executive officer, said RSPA should assess what carriers are doing on their own before deciding that more rules are needed.

He said a hearing was needed because "once they put out a rule it's hard to get them off the dime. Cooperative industry and governmental initiatives are preferred to additional regulatory mandates."
