Logistics Firm Launches App to Shorten Last-Mile Delivery

Progistics Distribution, a third-party logistics firm based in Oakland, California, has launched a web app to assist businesses with last-mile delivery. The product, called eDEMAND, is designed to make the management of drivers, vehicles and destinations easier for retail, e-commerce, small-package and bulk-shipment companies, according to the company.

“People don’t realize how challenging logistics really is and how complex the process of last-mile delivery should be when done right,” Progistics CEO Joel Ritch, said in a statement. “That’s why we are seeing so many failing delivery startups. The tech venture capitalists and startup companies underestimated the resources needed in building a successful logistics-driven business from the ground up.”

Last-mile transportation accounts for as much as 28% of all the costs in the supply chain, according to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. There also has been double-digit growth in transportation management software in the past several years, according to research firm Gartner. The technology, known as TMS, organizes the movement of goods among manufacturers, storage facilities and last-mile delivery to customers.

The eDEMAND app enables connect more than 700 professional drivers to businesses, brokers and other drivers, according to Progistics Distribution.



The service is available in Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, California, Phoenix, Portland, Oregon, San Francisco and Seattle.
