Hours of Service: Write Your Rep

To the Editor: I am enclosing a copy of the letter I recently sent to the below congressman [Rep. Garland Hale “Andy” Barr IV (R-Ky.), with copies to Rep. Todd Young (R-Ind.), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.)]. If all trucking companies would contact their congressmen, we could stop the proposal.

To the Honorable Congressman Barr:

As you know, from day one I was a financial supporter of yours and attended meetings in Louisville when Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California and Congressman Eric Cantor from Virginia were your guests.

You may remember that I own a trucking company, Mister “P” Express Inc., located in Jeffersonville, Ind., and employing 300-plus people.

Please find an enclosed article outlining a proposal from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that, if enacted, will have a devastating impact on all trucking companies. [Photocopy enclosed of Transport Topics’ front-page April 1 story, “Ferro Says No Delay Planned for New HOS Rule Enforcement.”]

Your help in delaying, or better still, eliminating this new rule would be most beneficial to us all.

I thank you for your support and appreciation for all your concerns for those of us with small businesses.
