Letter to the Editor: Through Lanes

ince moving to the Atlanta area about three years ago, I have been amazed at the number of accidents involving trucks on the interstates.

It is time for this country to develop truck-only lanes within 30 miles of every major city. Instead of more car-pool lanes we should be developing truck lanes. This would keep he number of accidents down and promote commerce and safety.

Also, a through-city lane dedicated to traffic not using local exits would keep pollution down and stop traffic tie-ups. In Boston, for instance, you have to go through the city to get to the other side. A single through-lane instead of a commuter lane would keep half of the traffic moving.

To be fair, lack of common courtesy is the cause of lots of accidents — people not being humble enough to let the other guy go in front. Let’s get a “Truckers for Road Courtesy” bumper sticker campaign going.
