WASHINGTON  To kick off Infrastructure Week’s “advocacy day” on May 13, the president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America called on lawmakers to advance a long-term measure that improves the country’s aging infrastructure.

“The proud men and women of LIUNA, and of all the building trades, are ready to do our job: rebuilding America’s infrastructure,” said the group’s president Terry O’Sullivan at a press event in front of the U.S. Capitol. “We call on Congress today to do its job: pass a long-term, well-funded highway bill; invest in our great nation’s infrastructure; and develop strategies to fund these projects for decades to come.”

LIUNA  joined state and local officials, stakeholders, and industry leaders for meetings with hundreds of members of Congress to advocate for infrastructure funding.

The group cited the Associated Equipment Distributors that determined every dollar spent on infrastructure construction results in nearly $2 of growth in the economy.
