Kentucky Codes Licenses With Security Measure

Kentucky is the latest state to embed digital security features in its driver licenses to prevent their fraudulent reproduction or use by unauthorized individuals.

The Division of Driver Licensing is adding two bar codes on the back of new cards, along with other encryption features, as part of a larger license makeover, according to a news release from Kentucky’s transportation department, known as the Transportation Cabinet.

The bar codes will provide the same information as the front of the card, as well as a black and white photo of the cardholder. Kentucky is the first state in the nation to place an image within the bar code, state transportation officials said.
