John Correnti, a longtime member of the Navistar board of directors and the CEO of Big River Steel, died Aug. 18. He was 68.

Correnti died in his Chicago hotel while he was visiting the city to attend a Navistar board meeting. A cause of death wasn't provided.

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of John Correnti, who was a member of Navistar's board of directors for the past 21 years," Navistar President Troy Clarke said. "Through his leadership experience, broad business expertise and insights, John contributed greatly to Navistar. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

Correnti helped shift the U.S. industry geographically and technologically by building new mills. He served as CEO of Nucor Corp. from 1996 to 1999.

Correnti’s death will not affect Big River Steel's construction plans, the company said, adding that Big River will be managed by its operating committee.

Correnti was born in Mount Morris, New York, in 1947, and graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.
