James Clark, Fleet Owner, Dies at 88; Longtime Member of Utah Trucking

James Clark, trucking company owner and officer of the Utah Motor Transportation Association, died on May 19. He was 88.

The group was renamed Utah Trucking Association about a decade ago. A longtime member of the group, he served on the board of directors.

His trucking company, James H. Clark & Son Trucking, was founded by his father, an apple farmer, in 1929. The company’s first fleet was purchased to distribute farm products.

Clark ran the family trucking company from 1969 to 1995, when he turned over management to his sons, Jeffery and Craig.



He also was a member of the Arabian Horse Association and enjoyed breeding and showing horses around the country.

James Cutler Clark was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Orem, Utah, to James Henry and Ina Cutler Clark. He grew up on the family fruit farm and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. He participated in Future Farmers of America in his youth.

He later served in the U.S. Army for two years in the military police.

He is survived by Leona, his wife of 67 years, son Craig and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffery.
