Since truckload carriers today often have a hand in less-than-truckload operations, suppliers of management software try to design their products accordingly.
Carriers are tending toward diversification, says Bob Maddocks, president and chief executive officer of Maddocks Systems, “because the cost of getting a great customer, a great shipper, is very expensive. And when you find one and that shipper offers you a different type of freight movement, you don’t want to say no. You want to adapt your company to handle that for them because you’re making money with them and you don’t want to risk losing the [original] business.” Turning down that different type of freight movement, he notes, can be tantamount to inviting a competitor who can handle it to step in.
Maddocks has a range of clients using its TruckMate for Windows software, including truckload, LTL and intermodal carriers, local cartage companies, brokerages, private fleets, couriers, and moving and storage companies.
