ISM Manufacturing Index Falls in September

he Institute for Supply Management said Monday its manufacturing index fell to 52.9 in September, its lowest level since last May.

The index, which measures U.S. manufacturing activity, fell from an August reading of 54.5.

ISM indices are set where a reading of above 50 indicate growth and below 50 show contraction.



The group’s prices paid index fell to 61 in September from 73 in August, its lowest level since July 2005. The new orders index was unchanged from last month’s reading of 54.2.
