Interstate 80 Reopens in Iowa Following Floods

Interstate 80 has reopened in Iowa, the Iowa Department of Transportation said.

A stretch of the road in Cedar County, Iowa, was closed due to flooding, requiring lengthy detours, the Associated Press reported.

Iowa DOT said the road is safe to travel and that there were no other closures on I-80, AP said.

I-380 between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, reopened on schedule Tuesday morning, the Des Moines Register reported.

Some bridges on Iowa’s eastern border remained closed, however, as floods continued along the banks of the Mississippi River, the Register said.

The Mississippi reached a record 25.7 feet near Burlington, Iowa, early Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, the paper said. The flood stage is 15 feet.
