Intermodal Rail Traffic Rose 4% in June

The amount of freight hauled by intermodal rail cars rose 4% in June, according to a report by the Association of American Railroads.

The report said that U.S. railroads hauled 1.11 million intermodal carloads in June 2005, up from the 1.06 million carloads hauled last year during June.

Overall rail traffic rose just 0.1% in June to 1.65 million carloads from 1.65 million in June 2004.

For the last week of June, the total number of intermodal loadings rose 6.9% with 233,277 containers and trailers being hauled by U.S. railroads. Overall rail traffic rose 0.9% to 335,610 carloads from 332,769 in the same period last year.
