Intermodal Rail Traffic Rises 8.2% for Week

U.S. rail intermodal traffic increased 8.2% in the week ended Jan. 18 compared with the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.

Railroads moved 267,428 intermodal trailers and containers, AAR said in its weekly report.

Railroad carloads excluding intermodal increased 4.5% year-over-year to 289,825 units, according to the AAR report.

Eight of 10 commodity groups showed increases, with nonmetallic minerals and products increasing 20.9% and petroleum products up 15.3%.



For the first three weeks of the year intermodal units increased 1.4% to 690,293 from the same period last year.
