Initial Jobless Claims Rise for Week

Initial jobless claims rose last week by 15,000, the biggest gain in two months, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims rose to 382,000 for the week ended Saturday, Labor said.

The initial claims figure was higher than economists’ forecasts of 370,000, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less-volatile measure, climbed to 375,000 last week, the highest in two months, from 371,750.

Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended Sept. 1 declined by 49,000, to 3.28 million.
