Initial Jobless Claims Rise 1,000, Labor Dept. Reports

he number of U.S. workers filing for initial unemployment benefits rose 10,000 in the week ended May 21, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Jobless claims increased to 323,000 claims, just below economists' forecast of a rise to 325,000, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, rose slightly to 330,500 from 330,000.



The number of people filing continuing jobless claims fell to 2.574 million the week ended May 14.

The four-week average of continuing claims rose to 2.587 million, from 2.582 million, which had been a four-year low.
