Initial Jobless Claims Fall 20,000 for Week

First-time U.S. jobless claims fell by 20,000 last week to 307,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.The level was below economists’ forecasts of 315,000 new claims, Bloomberg reported.The less-volatile four-week moving average fell to 304,750 from 309,250, Labor said.The number of people continuing to collect benefits rose to 2.553 million for the previous week ended Jan. 20, from 2.482 million a week earlier.
