Initial Jobless Claims Climb for Week

he number of U.S. workers filing initial unemployment benefits rose 3,000 last week to 322,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The increase led to a jobless level that was greater than the 320,000 predicted by economists, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average of claims, a less volatile measure, rose to 325,000 from 324,750 a week earlier, Labor said.



Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended Dec. 17 rose to 2.715 million, from 2.63 million a week prior.
