Import Prices Decline for Second Month in August

The price of imported goods dropped in August, after falling the prior month, the Labor Department reported Sept. 12.

August’s 0.9% decline follows a 0.3% drop the prior month. Economists in a Bloomberg News survey estimated that import prices would decline 1%.

Import prices excluding fuel rose 0.1% after no change in July, according to the Labor Department.

The price of imported consumer goods and capital goods was unchanged after no change the prior month.



Prices for U.S. exports fell 0.5% after rising 0.1% in July.
