Household Goods Consumer Protection Working Group to Meet Jan. 4-5

The members of the Household Goods consumer protection working group are scheduled to meet for the first time on Jan. 4-5, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced this month.

The group was established by the 2015 FAST Act highway law to recommend improvements on the delivery of household goods by trucks along interstates, with a focus on safety. They also are tasked with recommending ways to “reduce and simplify the paperwork required of motor carriers and shippers in interstate transportation,” according to a notice in the Federal Register.

By law, the group will terminate a year after submitting its recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation.

The group’s members include Thomas Balzer of the Ohio Trucking Association, John Esparza of the Texas Trucking Association, Dan Veoni of the American Moving and Storage Association, Gabriel Meyer of the Surface Transportation Board, Charles White of the International Association of Movers, and Kelsey M. Owen of the Better Business Bureau.

The meetings will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days at the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters.
