Holiday Time-Definite Deliveries Challenge Shippers

Despite a lagging economy, many online retailers are getting ready for the busy Christmas shopping season by strengthening their order processing and delivery systems to improve customer satisfaction.

While some companies are reconfiguring their systems for fulfilling customer orders, more and more online merchants are outsourcing all or part of their operations. Many now realize that they cannot, or should not, control every aspect of the customer’s experience, especially when it comes to the logistics of getting a product into his or her hands.

Toysrus.com is one company that has adopted the outsourcing philosophy. Last August the privately held affiliate of toy retailing giant Toys ‘R’ Us Inc. entered into a 10-year alliance with Amazon.com to fulfill orders placed through a co-branded Web site.
