Heartland Express Reports Higher 1Q Profit

Truckload carrier Heartland Express on Tuesday said its first quarter profit rose to $16.6 million, or 19 cents per share, from $14.9 million, or 16 cents, a year ago.

Revenue increased 5.6% to $134.8 million, the company said in a statement.

Heartland’s average tractor age was 1.9 years as of the end of the quarter, with all of its fleet 2010 models and newer. The average trailer age was 4.1 years, with 83% of the fleet 2007 models and newer.

Heartland Express said it took delivery of 27 new ProStar Plus International trucks in the first quarter. The company also said it will take delivery of 1,000 new Wabash trailers this year as it sells its remaining 2002-06 trailers.



Heartland Express is ranked No. 45 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire trucking companies.
