Hazmat Fees Increase for Large Carriers

The Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has increased registration fees to up $2,600 for large motor carriers that carry hazardous materials, American Trucking Associations said.

The new fee for a registrant that does not qualify as a small business will be $2,575, plus a $25 administration fee, ATA said in its Truckline newsletter to members.

For small businesses and non-profit organizations, the fee will remain at $250, plus the $25 administrative fee.

ATA and National Tank Truck Carriers submitted comments earlier this month to PHMSA opposing the new fee structure.

The organizations argued that the structure puts an unfair burden on large carriers, and that the fees ought to be more equitable.
