Grocer Ahold Group Reports Higher 4Q Earnings

Company's U.S. Unit Has Third-Largest Private Fleet

rocery firm Ahold Group reported fourth-quarter earnings of about $124 million or 8 cents a share, compared with about $15.5 million or less than 1 cent a year earlier.

Ahold Group said its net sales declined 3% to $16 billion, but excluding currency conversion rates they tallied a 9% rise.

Based in the Netherlands, Ahold Group is the parent company of Giant Food, Tops Markets and Stop & Shop Supermarkets in the United States.



Its Ahold USA subsidiary is ranked No. 3 on the Transport Topics Private 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian privately held carriers.
