Graves Addresses Key Issues in Speech to TCA
Graves, the first chief executive to address TCA since its re-affiliation with ATA, touched on the fight against increasing fuel prices, trucking’s role in securing the homeland, the economy and other issues on the horizon for trucking.
Calling fuel prices “a disaster,” Graves highlighted his efforts to lobby the federal government to release Strategic Petroleum Reserve and to monitor fuel prices for possible gouging, should the situation arise.
In discussing the economy, Graves said ATA supported President Bush’s stimulus package for “an economy that is growing, just not at a fast enough rate.”
In the next few months, Graves told TCA that the issuance of a final rule on hours of service, insurance issues, fuel taxes and highway reauthorization would come to the forefront of trucking’s agenda.
