Government, Trucking Eyes Standard to Replace Multiple Background Checks

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Truck drivers who currently submit to different background check to gain access to ports, private terminals and distribution centers could soon face only one look at their past, said industry and government officials.

A Transportation Security Administration spokesman said the agency wants to develop a single criminal background check for drivers that would satisfy a broad range of freight facilities.

“That’s been our thinking all along, to have one criminal background check,” TSA spokesman Brian Turmail told Transport Topics Feb. 25. “And we are working on that process.”
