Gerkens Named Landstar President

Transportation company Landstar System (LSTR) said Monday that Henry Gerkens has been named president and chief financial officer. Gerkens, most recently executive vice president and chief financial officer, replaces Jeff Crowe as president.

Crowe will continue to serve as chairman of the board and chief executive officer.

Gerkens has been with the company since 1998 and will be responsible for the daily operations of the entire Landstar system of companies, which is involved in over-the-road and intermodal transportation and logistics.

"I'm honored to lead this exceptional company and excited by the opportunities ahead," Gerkens said.

Landstar also announced Monday that Ranger President Gary Hartter has been named president of its carrier group.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Landstar, which does not own the majority of its trailers and uses mostly owner-operators, is ranked 14 on the Transport Topics 100 list of largest U.S. trucking companies, based on 1999 data.
