Freight Outlook Seen Mixed, With Possible Dip Amid Gains

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Freight volumes have been rising in recent months and are likely to continue rising in 2003, after a slight dip early in the year, freight haulers, shippers and industry analysts said this week.

Trucking officials and those with the Air Transport Association of America, the Association of American Railroads and a national load-posting service all told Transport Topics that freight volumes have been steadily increasing for months.

But while the trend is generally expected to continue, a weaker-than-expected holiday buying season could mean the first quarter has a slight decline in freight volumes, American Trucking Associations' Economist Bob Costello said.
