FMCSA Shuts Down S.C. Truckers

A South Carolina father and son and their trucking operations were shut down by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration as “imminent hazards to public safety,” the agency said Dec. 31.

Clarence Edward Risher Sr. and Clarence Edward Risher Jr. and their businesses, CER Trucking and Edward Risher Trucking, were served shut-down orders between Dec. 10 and Dec. 20, FMCSA said. The men and their businesses haul refrigerated and general freight in the Southeastern states, the agency said.

Neither man returned telephone messages seeking comment.

The younger Risher was involved in a fatal accident in Virginia in November while driving without a commercial driver license, FMCSA said, adding that it had been revoked in South Carolina.

FMCSA also said that CER Trucking “failed to monitor and ensure its drivers complied with federal hours-of-service requirements and controlled-substances and alcohol-use testing regulations.”
