he Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will hold a public meeting on cargo securement rules April 21-22, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Participants at the meeting will discuss a process for ensuring consistent interpretation of the harmonized cargo securement standards set by FMCSA and Canadian provinces, the agency said in a statement on its Web site.

FMCSA published a final rule Sept. 27, 2002, revising cargo-securement regulations for commercial motor vehicles operated in interstate commerce, with carriers given until Jan. 1, 2004 to comply with the new regulations.

The standards were modeled on North American Cargo Securement Standard Model Regulations, which were based on a comprehensive research program to evaluate U.S. and Canadian cargo-securement rules and trucking industry best practices, the agency said.
