FedEx Integrates LTL Units Into U.S., Canadian Operations

FedEx Corp. said Monday it has integrated its 2006 acquisition of Watkins Motor Lines into its less-than-truckload network in the United States and Canada.FedEx National LTL and FedEx Freight Canada were created through the company’s acquisition of Watkins last year for $780 million, which it completed in September. (Click here for previous coverage.)The new units employ about 9,000 people, down from about 10,000 when the deal was first announced last May, Bloomberg reported, citing Doug Duncan, chief executive officer of FedEx Freight, the company’s LTL unit.FedEx is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
