FedEx Corp. played an important role in the preparations for Super Bowl XLIX by delivering a key piece of hardware — the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

FedEx, the NFL’s delivery service sponsor, transported the trophy from New York to Phoenix.

“Today, we are honored to play a role in commemorating this marquee sporting event with the delivery of another iconic and precious item, the Vince Lombardi Trophy, to Arizona in time for Super Bowl XLIX,” said Patrick Fitzgerald, senior vice president of integrated marketing and communications.

The trophy arrived Jan. 24 at the league’s “NFL Experience” theme park at the Phoenix Convention Center, giving fans a chance to see it up-close before the big game.

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks played in the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

The sterling silver award, made by luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co., depicts a regulation-size football in kicking position on a pyramid-like base with the NFL shield.

“Every day, more than 300,000 FedEx team members around the world pack, ship and deliver a wide variety of precious items,” Fitzgerald said.

FedEx Express courier Richard Bauer made the final delivery to NFL Experience with the help of former NFL star Torry Holt, a member of the St. Louis Rams, who won Super Bowl XXXIV.

The trophy arrived in a FedEx Express all-electric vehicle and was monitored by the Sense Aware shipment-tracking service.

FedEx, based in Memphis, Tennessee, ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
