Emmett to Leave NIT League

Edward M. Emmett announced his intention to resign as president of the National Industrial Transportation League, the organization’s Web site reported Tuesday.

Emmett, president of the NIT League since 1992, said he would resign effective May 6, or at a date "more advantageous and mutually agreeable."

In a letter to Chairman Tom Pellington, Emmett said he and his wife have a desire to return Texas. He said that three of his four children, as well as many close political and personal friends are living in Texas and those relationships are drawing them back to the state.

Emmett said on the NIT League's Web site that "not a day dawned that I regretted coming to work for the league. The issues have been interesting and the staff supportive, but, most of all, working with the leaders and members of this organization has been a blessing."

Pellington said in a statement that Emmett's commitment to the group and his leadership would be missed, but that he was very happy for him and his family.

No successor for Emmett was immediately named.
