LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Eaton Corp. announced that it will make available an optimized version of its Fuller Advantage automated 10-speed transmission for select Peterbilt and Kenworth branded trucks produced by Paccar Corp. with Paccar’s proprietary MX-13 engine.

The powertrain package is lighter and more fuel-efficient than previous engine-transmission combinations, Tim Sinden, Eaton’s president of North American truck operations, said here March 27 at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

Eaton already provides a matched transmission for two models of heavy-duty diesel engines made by Cummins Inc., which also are used to power Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks. Another version for Cummins-Westport natural-gas engines is expected to be released in mid-May.

“We are excited to partner with North American truck manufacturers to deliver integrated powertrain solutions,” Sinden said.

Eaton officials said sales of automated transmissions account for about 20% of total sales of heavy-duty truck transmissions in North America and that number is expected to increase to 30% of the market in the next three to five years.
