DOT to Provide $40 Million for Katrina-Damaged Roads

he U.S. Department of Transportation said it released $20 million each to Louisiana and Mississippi to help the states rebuild federal roads and bridges damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Relief funds provided by the Federal Highway Administration which is part of DOT, may be used to repair or rebuild portions of Interstate 10, U.S. 90 and other federally supported highways and bridges, DOT said.

DOT Secretary Norman Mineta in September announced $5 million in emergency relief funds to each state as an initial down payment to rebuild storm-damaged infrastructure.



The Bush administration has requested that Congress provide an additional $2.3 billion for repairing and rebuilding Katrina-damaged highways and bridges, DOT said.
