DOT has asked for $44.7 million back from the $4.6 billion it provided to 410 air carriers harmed by the terrorist attacks and the government’s response to the violence.
Atop DOT’s list is FedEx Express, which has been asked to return $31.6 million of the $119 million it received. FedEx denied the department’s claims, stating that the government actually owed the company an additional $18 million.
