DOT Awards Relief Funds to Arkansas

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will receive $1 million in federal aid to repair corridors damaged by recent floods, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced Feb. 25.

State officials noted the emergency federal funds would be used for fixing pavement, bridges and roadways essential to freight movement. In late December, storms caused severe flooding throughout the western part of the state.

“Emergency relief funding will help Arkansas begin to recover from the widespread damage caused by last month’s storms,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said. “We understand how important it is to get these roads repaired and reopened so life there can return to normal as soon as possible.”

“Arkansans should know that the funds provided today are just a down payment on what we know will be many other repairs to the highways that they rely heavily upon,” Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau added.
