Diesel Prices Fall Again, Down 1.5 Cents to $1.427 a Gallon

The average price of diesel fuel fell 1.5 cents last week to $1.427 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported Tuesday.

Changes in the price of diesel fuel, the primary fuel for the trucking industry, can have a significant impact on the bottom line for trucking companies.

The price of gasoline, the other major fuel for trucking, fell 0.9 cent to $1.439 a gallon in the most recent week, according to the Energy Department.

The price of diesel slipped in every one of the regions that the DOE measures prices in, but fell most significantly along the Gulf Coast – where the price fell 2.3 cents a gallon to $1.371, the cheapest gallon of diesel in the country.

The East Coast and Midwest also saw price declines of more than a cent, with the price of diesel falling 1.2 cents and 1.6 cents respectively, the DOE’s Energy Information Administration reported.

Three straight declines in diesel prices have pared 4.2 cents from a late October high of $1.469 a gallon.

Each week, the EIA surveys 350 diesel-filling stations around the country to compile a snapshot of diesel prices. Normally these surveys take place and are released on Mondays, but were delayed this week by the Veterans’ Day holiday.
