Diesel Price Breaks Trend, Rises to $1.407

The national average price of diesel fuel rose a slight 0.2 cent a gallon to $1.407, the Department of Energy reported Monday.

The rise in trucking’s most-used fuel was the first in decline in five weeks and followed last week’s static report by the DOE’s Energy Information Administration.

The price of gasoline, the other major fuel for trucking, fell 1.6 cents a gallon to $1.364, EIA said.

The increase in diesel costs was spearheaded by regional price rises along the East and Gulf Coasts and in the Rocky Mountains, EIA reported.

The Gulf Coast had the largest regional increase, the report said, as the price of diesel rose 0.7 cent to $1.347 a gallon.

In the Midwest and on the West Coast, the price fell 0.2 cent to $1.410 and $1.487 a gallon respectively.

Each week, the DOE surveys 350 diesel filling stations across the country to come up with a snapshot of the national average price of the fuel.
