DHL to Raise Rates in 2007

ffective Jan. 1, DHL will raise shipping rates for its DHL Domestic Air Express and International Express divisions by 3.9%, while increasing rates for its DHL Ground shipments by 4.9%, the package carrier said Thursday.

The rate increase for air express and international shipments comprises a 5.9% increase in the average base rates, offset by a 2% reduction in the air fuel surcharge, DHL said in a statement.

The carrier also said it will implement a new dimensional weight system for oversized DHL Ground shipments beginning in the first quarter of 2007. If the dimensional weight of a package larger than three cubic feet exceeds the package’s actual weight, the dimension weight will be used in lieu of actual weight for billing purposes.

DHL is the parent company of DHL Americas, which is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 list of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
