Dana’s 2Q Profit Rises

Component maker Dana Holding Corp. said Thursday its second-quarter profit rose from a year ago, as light-vehicle markets offset a decline in North American commercial trucking markets.

Net income improved to $85 million, or 44 cents per share, from $79 million, or 40 cents, a year ago. Revenue slipped to $1.8 billion from $1.9 billion.

Dana, Maumee, Ohio, said reductions in sales and administration expenses and lower restructuring costs more than offset lower sales.

In addition to lower market volumes in the North American commercial-vehicle market, the maker of Spicer brand drive shafts and axles also cited declines in global off-highway markets.

Dana adjusted its 2013 earnings outlook to $7 billion from $7.1 billion, with adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $800 million.
