ummins Inc. announced Thursday that its Mineral Point, Wis., facility has begun manufacturing the diesel particulate filters that will help the engine maker achieve compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s upcoming 2007 emission standards.

Cummins’ filter system uses a diesel oxidation catalyst and a diesel particulate filter to trap particulate matter in a truck’s exhaust system, cutting PM emissions by 90%, the company said in a statement.

The system was developed by the engine maker’s emissions exhaust aftertreatment division, Cummins Emissions Solutions, which was formed in 2002 to respond to rising emission standards in the U.S. and the European Union.
