rude oil inventories rose last week by 1 million barrels but gasoline and distillate stockpiles fell, the Department of Energy said Thursday.
Gasoline supplies fell 2.7 million barrels and distillates — which include diesel — fell by 3.4 million barrels, DOE said in its weekly report, which released Thursday instead of Wednesday because of the Columbus Day holiday this week.
Analysts had forecast a rise of 2 million barrels in crude, Bloomberg reported, but the gasoline and distillate drops were about in line with expectations, CNBC reported.
Crude oil futures fell 17 cents to $63.95 a barrel in intraday trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Bloomberg reported.
Retail diesel prices rose to a record $3.15 a gallon, DOE reported Tuesday, while gasoline fell 8 cents to $2.848.
