C.R. England said it will offer a new bonus program for its company and independent truck drivers, and will boost pay for solo company drivers in its Western regional fleet.

The increases, which take effect March 2, are the Salt Lake City-based refrigerated truckload carrier’s third announced pay raises since November and the second in the past 40 days.

Once its apprentice drivers are successfully trained and upgraded and become active drivers, their trainers will make 1 cent per mile for every mile the apprentice drives, the company said.

“Our trainers are critical to the success of C.R. England’s new drivers,” said COO Brandon Harrison. “This bonus will provide trainers an opportunity to earn extra income through the successful training of their apprentices.”

Western region solo drivers will also receive an average pay increase of 14.1%. C.R. England’s Western region represents a large percentage of its nationwide regional fleets and, on average, the increase will equate to a more than 4 cents per mile.

Several trucking executives and analysts said last month at an industry conference that strong freight markets will continue to be solid this year, opening the door for carriers to raise pay rates at least 4%.

C.R. England is ranked No. 20 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
