Consumer Confidence Drops in June

Consumer confidence dropped in June to the lowest level this year, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index released Friday.

The preliminary index for the month fell to a reading of 74.1, from 79.3 in May, which was the highest since October 2007.

The June reading was the first downturn in 10 months.

Economists had predicted a decline to 77.5, Bloomberg reported.
