.S. construction spending gained 0.4% in August, the Commerce Department reported Monday.
The increase to a $1.109 trillion annual rate followed a revised 0.3% rise in July that was originally reported as no change from the previous month, Commerce said.
Construction spending can boost demand for trucking services because spending increases the number of shipments of goods and building materials.
The increase matched economists’ forecasts, Bloomberg reported.
rivate residential construction, which accounts for more than half of construction spending, rose 0.2% in August following no change in July.
Non-residential construction spending jumped 0.7% after rising 0.5% in July.
Construction spending by the government rose 0.5% in August, Commerce said.
