The U.S. House on Sept. 30 approved legislation that would keep the Department of Transportation and the rest of the federal government funded through Dec. 11.

The legislation, known colloquially as a continuing resolution, passed by a vote of 277-151. The bill now moves to the president’s desk for his signature. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law.

By advancing the continuing resolution, Congress averted a shutdown of federal agencies at the start of fiscal 2016 on Oct. 1. House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said it was unfortunate the chamber resorted to a stopgap measure to ensure funding.

Now through December, congressional leaders will work on a comprehensive funding bill that might include provisions related to trucking policies, several congressional aides told Transport Topics. The continuing resolution did not defund Planned Parenthood, an agency that has been targeted by key conservatives.
