Con-way Names Bartos as Interim Truckload President

Con-way Inc. announced the appointment of Hank Bartos as interim president of its Truckload unit, seven days after shifting former President Joe Dagnese to the top post at Con-way Freight.

Bartos becomes the fourth person to head the Truckload unit in less than three years. Con-way, which is based Ann Arbor, Michigan, picked Dagnese to head Truckload early last year to replace Saul Gonzalez, who served in that role for 16 months following the retirement of Herb Schmidt in late 2012.

Bartos, who has more than 30 years of experience in trucking, airfreight and logistics, is shifting to the Truckload unit from Con-way Enterprise Services' information and technology unit, where he was vice president of operations. Con-way said it has begun looking for a permanent head of Truckload, a process that should take several months.

In his new post, Dagnese oversees a business with annual revenue of more than $3.5 billion, compared with about $700 million at Truckload.

Dagnese moved to the Freight unit, Con-way’s largest business, on June 16 to replace Gregory Lehmkuhl, who resigned to take the CEO position at Lineage Logistics, a California company.

“Hank’s deep operational background and project management experience will provide valuable leadership that will help advance the strategic plans developed and implemented by Joe and the Truckload team,” Con-way CEO Douglas Stotlar said in a statement.

Con-way is No. 4 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
