Class 8 Sales Continue Year-to-Year Free Fall

The makers of Class 8 heavy trucks sustained losses nearly across the board in July, countering modest improvements some had posted in June, according to figures released by Ward’s Communications.

Overall, 11,184 Class 8 trucks moved for the month, according to the survey. That was a drop from the June figure of 12,980, and 36% below the July 2000 figure of 17,504. For the entire year, 85,185 heavy trucks have been sold — a 38.8% decline from the 139,303 sold in the same seven months last year.

Overall, July sales ranged from just under a quarter to nearly 50% below the figures recorded a year ago.
