Canadian National Reaches Labor Agreement, Averting Strike

anadian National Railway Co. said late Tuesday night that it had reached a new labor contract with Teamsters Canada, averting a strike.

CN said in a statement that the wording of the five-year agreement, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2004, was still being worked out.

CN is Canada’s largest freight railroad.



The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference has about 1,600 active employees, with 1,490 in freight services, CN said.

The Canadian government appointed mediators who assisted in the negotiations, the railroad's statement said.
